The Westside Drive-In opened July 17, 1953 with William Lundigan in “Down Among the Sheltering Palms” & John Payne in “The Blazing Forest”. It had a 500 car capacity. It became a two screen theatre from April 8, 1977. Closed in the early-1980’s and has since been demolished.

July 17th, 1953 grand opening ad can be found in the photo section.
April 8th, 1977 grand opening ad as a twin in photo section.
Opened with “Down among the sheltering palms” and “Blazing forest”.
Opened as a twin with on screen 1 with “Rooster Cogburn”, “Jaws” and “My name is Nobody”, and screen 2 with “Too hot to handle” and “The arousers”.
The site is now houses.
Same drive-in? Motion Picture Herald, Jan. 26, 1952: “Douglas Case is building a 500-car drive-in on the west side of Evansville, with view to a spring opening.”
