Cambie Art Theatre

Odeon opened the Cambie Theatre on November 19, 1937 with Fred Astaire in “The Dancing Lady” & “Crime Does Not Pay”. Seating was listed at 700. Odeon Theatres Canada closed the Camnbie Theatre in 1953. It reopened as the Cambie Art Theatre on January 1, 1961.

This was dropped by Odeon in 1953 and reopened as the Cambie Art Theatre on January 1st, 1961. Grand opening ad posted.

The Biographical Dictionary of Architects in Canada attributes the design of the Cambie Theatre to Vancouver architect H. H. Simmonds.
