Located on the 1200 block of Main Street (one block from the state capitol). The Miracle Theatre was a single screen downtown movie theatre which opened on January 26, 1968 with Audrey Hepburn in “Wait Until Dark”. It had balcony seating (rocking chairs) and a spacious lobby. Owned and operated by Eastern Federal Corp.
In 1978 it changed to a $1 admission policy in a last ditch effort to compete with mall theatres. The last day of operation was December 31, 1978…I know because I closed it.

I was a USC student when this theater opened in 1967. I’m quite sure that The Graduate was the first movie shown here.
1201-1205 S. Main St. was also home to the Columbia Theatre, an African American cinema in the silent era. So an ad of the Columbia Theatre is also parked here in photos.
This opened as the Miracle theatre on January 26th. 1968.
