Dixie Cinema 4

This was also once known as the Alpha 1 Twin Cinema in confusion with the Alpha 2 Cinema off of Preston Highway which closed on March 25, 1982, which would later be converted into a longtime Chuck E. Cheese’s (formerly Chuck E. Cheese’s Pizza Time Theatre), which opened July 31st of that year and ran for a successful 15 years until closure on November 8, 1997.

I was an usher, projectionist, then a manager here from 89 till they closed. Actually Dixie 4 was bought by Cinemark and operated as a dollar theatre for a short time. Maybe for less than two years. Then it was sold to Marty Sussman, who used to own the vogue and who brought Rocky Horror to the vogue. I don’t think we closed in 91 because I was in engineering school in 92 and remember studying in the break room. We also had Menace II society which was 93. I think we closed in 93 or 94 because I switched to Marty’s other theatre, Movie City till they closed, then Jtown 4 for a short period before I quit and started waiting tables in 95.

Actually the original name was the alpha cinemas Started as a 2 screen but became a 4 screen . This was the first movie theater I ever visited . It was built in early 1970s and the building still stands but a new building was built in front of it . If you go to the back you can still see the original building and exit doors . Note : it was build on the property that was once the Dixie drive in
