Opened by Consolidated Theatre on November 5, 1937 with Shirley Temple in “Wee Willie Winkie”. The Kewalo Theater served the Kaka'ako neighborhood in Honolulu. It would show second-run films, along with Japanese and Filipino films.
Uncertain of when it stopped being a movie theater, but in the mid to late-1970’s it was in use as a warehouse for old film reels. One could walk or drive past it, see a door open and be able to look at racks of tin reels inside.
The building is still there, becoming the home of a scuba equipment business. By 2022 it was in use as a sauna.
