The 1,421-seat Mann Sycamore 6 opened on July 30, 1982.
The Daily News of Los Angeles reported on August 10, 1993: “A masked man held three movie theater employees at gunpoint Monday and robbed the business of $2,400, Simi Valley police said. After forcing the theater manager to open the safe, the man fled with the cash.”
Further bad luck happened on January 17, 1994 when an earthquake that hit Simi Valley caused part of the roof of the theater to collapse. Broken water pipes also caused flooding in much of the theater, which put the theater out of business for over four months.
The theatre reopened on May 27, 1994 and remained so until it closed in the fall of 2004 and the seats were put to good use by the Simi Valley Cultural Arts Center. The Sycamore Plaza building has most recently been occupied by Home Goods.
