The Super 40 Drive-In opened on July 14, 1949 with Randolph Scott in “Gunfighters”. It was owned by Chris Velas, who also owned the Morristown Drive-In and operated the Capitol Theatre in Bellaire, Ohio. In 1960, Velas would also be responsible for the buying and booking for the St. Clairsville Drive-In.
The Super 40 Drive-In parked 450 cars, featuring a playground and picnic tables. They screened “Dust to Dawn” movies on Memorial Day, 4th of July and Labor Day holidays. For extra enjoyment, fireworks were also displayed on those holiday’s. The drive-in closed in 1963.
