The Shia’s Drive-In opened its gates on June 11, 1949 with John Wayne in “Tycoon” along with a newsreel and a couple of short subjects. A short time later, it was renamed Shia’s Hilltop Drive-In when it was operated by S.D. Shia and Co-Operative Theatres of Ohio.
The theatre had a couple of name changes. A little more than a decade later, the theatre was renamed St. Clairsville Drive-In, and was lastly known as the 70-40 Drive-In, named after U.S. Highway 40 and Interstate 70.
The 70-40 Drive-In closed for the final time in connection with the opening of the 4-screen (later 9-screen and now 11-screen) Ohio Valley Mall Cinema in 1979. However, the former drive-in remained mostly untouched for almost another decade. The drive-in was demolished in the late-1980’s.

The address is the same, but the drive-in sat where the Kroger grocery store is now located.
