The Los Angeles Times reported in 1980 that a theater was to be built by Theatre Development Corp. (presumably on spec) in the Paseo Camarillo office and retail center. United Cinema Corp. was the original operator of the Monterey-style theater, designed by Ebbe Videriksen. The three-screen theater opened on November 13, 1981 with 200 seats in each auditorium.
The Ventura County Star noted in August of 1997 that Lyndon Golin had remodeled the Paseo Camarillo Cinema into an upscale art house. Golin and his brother Andrew bought the cinema 11 months before as a hobby. They tried discounted second-run films but the results were under whelming. They were quoted as saying “This theater is not going to make us millions. It’s a family operation”.
The theater turned out to be more than a hobby and it became part of the Golin’s growing Regency Theatres in Southern California. The small Paseo Camarillo Cinemas has found popularity as a neighborhood art house. It was temporary closed on August 12, 2021.
