The Northside Cinemas opened on September 19, 1974 with James Garner in “The Castaway Cowboy” & Fred MacMurray in “The Absent Minded Professor” in screen 1 and Clint Eastwood in “Thunderbolt and Lightfoot” in screen 2. Seating was listed at 425. It was operated by Gulf International Cinema Corp. The cinema closed in 1981. The building is still in use and is located in a small strip shopping center.

The Northside Cinema Twin I & II launched with a benefit show on September 19, 1974 and with a grand opening for Gulf States Circuit on September 20, 1974. The opening films were a double feature of Walt Disney’s “The Castaway Cowboy” and “The Absent-Minded Professor” and in Cinema II with was Clint Eastwood in “Thunderbolt and Lightfoot.” The theatre had lipstick red draperies, seats and floors.

Closed 1981 when newer cinemas opened.
