Roebuck Drive-In

The Roebuck Drive-In opened in summer of 1948 with a car capacity listed at 500 cars. The drive-in was operated by Waters Theater Co. It closed in 1964 and was demolished in the same year.

The Roebuck Plaza Theatre was built on an almost adjacent site and opened in 1966. (It has its own page on Cinema Treasures).

Boxoffice, May 1, 1948: “ROEBUCK, ALA. — The Roebuck Drive-In Theatre, now under construction between Roebuck and Huffman, will be completed and opened in the near future, according to J. B. Waters Theatre Co., owner. The drive-in will have a 550-car capacity.”

Drive-in didn’t close in 1969, the drive in closed around 1964, the next year it was torn down for a Kmart store (store 4111, operated from October 28, 1965 to June 6, 2000)

A Walmart now occupies the former Kmart, which opened on January 28, 2004 after relocating from its older location on 1189 Huffman Road, which is an ex-Woolco that opened on November 13, 1984.
