The Charles Twin Cinema opened on August 10, 1973 with Joanne Woodward in “The Effect of Gamma Rays on Man-In-The-Moon Marigolds” & Barbra Streisand in “What’s Up, Doc?”. It changed operators in 1974 and got a name change too, it became the Airport Twin Cinemas. The cinema was closed by National United Theatres on January 14, 1988 with Richard Dreyfus in “Stakeout” & Diane Keaton in “Baby Boom”. It is now a bar and restaurant.

This theater was open in the mid ‘80s, as I saw Gremlins there. I did not see anything there when visiting in later years, so it may have closed by the end of the decade. By 1988, a new ten screen theater was opened in the Mobile Festival Centre nearby.
-Charles Twin Cinema open on August 10, 1973 (Grand Opening AD) as an independent operator, but on April 25, 1974, after 8 months it closed. On August 9, 1974, it re-opened as Airport Twin Cinema (AD), and operated by Giddens & Rester, ABC Southeastern took over 4 months later on December 20, 1974, Plitt in 1978, Cineplex-Odeon in 1986, and then it became a second-run theatre in 1987 by National United. The Airport Twin Cinema closed on January 14, 1988.
Opened with “Marigolds” in Screen 1 and “What’s Up Doc” in Screen 2. It was first operated by Giddens & Rester, later ABC Southeastern Theatres, later Plitt, later Cineplex Odeon and finally National United Theaters. It was closed on January 14, 1988 with “Stakeout” in Screen 1 and “Baby Boom” in Screen 2.
