Delta Road Cinema 6

Located at the intersection of Delta Road at East W.T. Harris Boulevard, the Delta Road Cinema 6 opened on February 9, 1990 under Charlotte based Eastern Federal Corporation. The Delta Road Cinemas offered the latest innovations in theatre excitement with six giant screens and the latest Dolby Stereo systems. It remained a first-run venture for some great blockbusters for the greater Charlotte area for 15 years until it was closed by Eastern Federal on January 8, 2004. Since demolished and a Walmart store has been built on the site.

Grew up just down the street from here. Before this place came out in glorious stereo sound, we just had the 2nd run Regency in walking distance. So many great memories of this place, after class movies on Fridays (the jr high school is located up the hill, used to be a well worn path through the woods), the 97 Special Edition release of the Star Wars Trilogy, and Sundays we’d ditch service at HGBC to see something. Last movie I remember seeing at Delta was the Matrix: Reloaded on opening night. This was back when management at theatres were cool with decorating the building and letting staff dress up. I remember they’d changed all the light fixtures green and the lobby was already black carpet and walls, so it was pretty eerie. Almost right after that I got a job at the AMC at Concord, and free movies across town with surround and stadium seats was too appealing for me to ever go back there. After college I remember coming home and seeing an empty lot where it had once been. Very sad day.
