The Newton Theatre was open as early as 1930. It could seat 550 patrons all on one floor. In the mid-1950’s it was managed by Mr. Jas. I Jellico. The theatre was gone from the listings by 1957. It was initially operated by Everett Enterprises followed by Stewart and Everett until its closing. The building is still standing and the front of the building has been completely remodeled. Usage unknown.

The 1950 Film Daily Year Book listed three theaters for Newton: The Catawba, the State, and the Gem, which had 400 seats. Was that another name for the Newton?
Motion Picture Exhibitor, Nov. 3, 1954: “The former Gem, Newton, N. C., has been sold by G. Otto Hartsoe to Ed Haupt.”
11 N Brady Ave appears to be the former theatre.
