The Sundown Drive-In was opened by 1950 when it was operated by R.D. Drum & W.G. Murray. It was located in the Catawba secetion of town.

This small drive-in is located in the southeast corner of downtown Newton on Charlotte Highway (or East D Street and NC-10 intersection) and opened around 1950. The theater closed in the early-1960s, but the former drive-in screen managed to stand for a time after closure (judging by a 1966 aerial view) until it was demolished sometime around a decade later.
