Joy Theatre

The Rio Theatre was opened by 1942. On October 17, 1943 it was destroyed by a fire. It was operated by the Joy Theatres chain, and they rebuilt it renaming it Joy Theatre, and closing their other Joy Theatre further along the street. Seating was listed at 500 seats. The Joy Theatre was closed on January 25, 1971 with the documentary “Cougar Country”. In July 1972 the floor was leveled and it became Vee’s five and dime variety store.

The building was last being used as a roller rink called Rad Rollers. It was demolished soon after 2008.
