The Fort Theatre originally opened in Fort McMurray around 1940 as a single-screen house seating just 140. It was closed by about 1945, then it reopened in early-1970 as a twin theatre with a seating total of 450. In 1985, seating capacity in Cinema One at the Fort Theatre was expanded to 290, giving the theatre a total of 515 seats. In its later years, the May Theatres chain operated the Fort Theatre along with its six-screen McCinema (now the Landmark 6).

The Fort Theatre closed in 2006.
