Located in Washington, near Sunderland, County Durham/Tyne & Wear. The Alexandra Theatre was opened around 1910. It operated as a music hall, and in 1919 began screening films. In 1930 it was equipped with an Edibell sound system.
It was soon modernised and was renamed Regal Cinema around 1936. It was closed in the 1960’s and was converted into a bingo club. It was badly damaged by a fire, and was rebuilt, again in use as a bingo club. Closed by 2014, the empty building was destroyed in an arson fire in April 2017.

By April 2015 the bingo club had been closed for some time, and the empty building, including a small cafe to the front, also closed, was up for sale. Outline planning permission had been granted for conversion into 16 apartments, but alternative uses would clearly be considered.
The building was destroyed in a fire this week in which the roof collapsed. One person has been arrested on suspicion of arson.
