Located in Washington, near Sunderland, County Durham/Tyne & Wear. The Glebe Picture House was opened by 1921. It had a 25 feet wide proscenium, an 8 feet deep stage and two dressing rooms. By 1930 it had been equipped with a British Thompson Houston(BTH) sound system. It was then known as the Glebe Cinema.

Around 1946 it was re-named New Carlton Cinema, and by 1954 it was the Carlton Cinema. It was closed in the late-1950’s and was converted into a factory. It has since been demolished and flats have been built on the site.

On a visit in April 2015 I confirmed that the Carlton has been demolished. A block of flats stands on the site.
