The Lido Cinema opened on 28th March 1955 with “Take the Stage” starring Donald O'Connor and Gale Storm. It was built by Troxy Cinemas Ltd. about a mile from their Troxy Cinema. The Lido Cinema was the first post-war cinema in Belfast and the first to have CinemaScope installed. Seating was on one floor. Among the up and coming acts at the opening ceremony was a young comedian Frank Carson.
Inevitably, the Lido Cinema didn’t last long, and it closed in 1970. It was purchased by the local RC community and, in the late-1990s, was a Catholic church. It has since been demolished and a new Catholic Church has been built on the site.

Still a church.
Yes,it has been demolished. St Mary’s Church built a new church on the site.
The gala performance was on Saturday the 26th March 1955. The film from the 28th March was The Student Prince. Cinemascope was first shown at the Hippodrome in 1954 with the screening of The Robe.
Architect was John McBride Neill.
