In Brightlingsea, Essex, the town’s first cinema is easy to overlook - as it was built within a very modest existing building and it only lasted a mere four months! It was opened in August 1912 by Junius Booth (an American, nephew of John Wilkes Booth, Lincoln’s assassin), but closed that December when Mr. Booth shot his wife Florence and then himself.
The building has had many uses over the years; in October 1998, when my photograph was taken, it appeared to be in use as a workshop.
