The Lafayette Theatre was opened in early-March 1911, designed by architectural firm Niederhauser & McCluskey. The Motion Picture Yearbook listed seating at 500. The theatre was closed in the mid-1920’s, and re-opened on March 21, 1925 as an African-American theatre. Alterations were made in 1936 to the plans of architect Morris Zimlin.
The Lafayette Theatre was closed in 1952, and was demolished in January 1954 to build a new school.
