The 600-seat Thornton Theatre was opened prior to 1913. It was closed on June 16, 1960 with Sal Mineo in “The Gene Krupa Story” and Michael Gough in “Horrors of the Black Museum”.
On July 6, 1961 it was taken over by new operators and reopened as the Stratford Theatre with the compilation comedy movie “Days of Thrills and Laughter” starring Roscoe ‘Fatty’ Arbuckle & Charlie Chaplin. It was closed a month later. It reopened on October 8, 1962 presenting live music acts on the stage, returning to the Thornton Theatre name. It was closed on May 4, 1963. The site is now a parking lot for an Aldi supermarket at this address.

The Thornton Theatre closed on June 16, 1960 with “The Gene Krupa Story” and “Horrors of the Black Museum.” It reopened under new management briefly as the Stratford Theatre on July 6, 1961 with “Days of Laughter.” That lasted for one month. It returned to its Thornton Theatre name in 1962 hosting live jamborees on the stage from October 8, 1962 until May 4, 1963.
