Located in Sible Hedingham, Essex, to the north of Halstead. The Plaza Cinema was opened on 29th August 1929 with Harold Lloyd in “Speedy”. Seating was provided for 400, all on a single level. It was independently operated, but by 1940 had been taken over by the Lou Morris chain and they operated it until 1945, when another independent operator took over.
The Plaza Cinema was closed in 1959 and was put up ‘For Sale’. The building stood unused until around 1970 when it was converted into a club. It later became a showroom for Clifton Cars Ltd., where were still in the building in 1995. It has since been demolished and the site is a vacant plot of land in 2014.
