Located in the Devon seaside town of Torquay. The 500-seat Burlington Picture House was built by Sydney G. Boultwood of Plymouth and opened on 22nd March 1920. It was equipped with a Western Electric(WE) sound system in 1930.
On 26th February 1931 it was taken over by the Associated British Cinemas(ABC) chain. They leased it in 1933 to their subsidiary Regent Cinemas chain, who operated it until 1935, when it was taken back by ABC. In July 1939 it was taken over by an independent operator.
In September 1944 the Burlington Picture House was damaged by fire and was rebuilt, now with a seating capacity for 470, it had a 25 feet wide proscenium. It was closed in December 1953, having never been equipped with CinemaScope. The building was demolished and a Court’s Furnishing store was built on the site.
