Boxoffice, May 18, 1970: “Cincinnati-based Mid States Theatres reopened its 438-car drive-in after a complete remodeling with a three-day old-fashioned festival Thursday, April 30 through Saturday (2) to celebrate the occasion. The new decor is in the old-western style of the early 1900s and the drive-in name has been changed from Flatwoods to Corral Drive-In.”
A 1971 aerial does not show the screen, which is quite prominent in the 1983 aerial. There appears to be some material around the area of where the screen should be located.
Was the screen torn down or perhaps blown down by a storm, then rebuilt? Or, did the drive-in not open until after 1971, which means it didn’t last very long.
I understand that if the sun is directly overhead, seeing the screen might be difficult. But it’s just not there. And aerial photos are time stamped, so unlike topo maps which may contain old information, aerial photos show what was there at the time.
Opened as the Flatwood Drive-In and reopened as the Corral Drive-In on May 1st, 1970. 1970 grand opening ad posted.
It was built in 1960. I just recently saw an aerial view of the theater being constructed. It probably opened in 1960 or 1961. It was demolished during the second quarter of the 1990s.
Built sometime in the 1960’s, closed in the early to mid 80’s?
The Drive-In was located at 2108 Espy Lane (Google). It is mostly a large, open field with no trace of the drive-in remaining. https://goo.gl/maps/qMS93
