One of the Century mall theaters that sprung up all over Long Island in the 1960’s. Century’s Mall Theatre was opened on May 27, 1969 with Suzanne Pleshette in “If It’s Tuesday, This Must Be Belgium”. Later renamed Smith Haven Mall Theatre. On December 22, 1989 it was converted into a quad, but still had nice size screens and auditoriums. Cineplex did a nice renovation in the mid-1980’s, but when Loews built the StoneyBrook 15 across the street, business fell off. Instead of booking it with independent and art films to appeal to Smithtown’s upper class residents, they used it as a dumping ground for bad films and move-overs. It closed on May 16, 2002.

When Century first opened this theater it was simply the “Mall”. Only took on the full moniker of “Smith Haven Mall” later when malls started to pop up all over Long Island.
And also the location was Lake Grove not Smithtown. The Zip Code, however, is correct.
when did it open as a quad. can’t locate grand opening. Saw one movie there With Honors
Searched “Cineplex Smith Haven” in newspapers.com, I was able to pin down the opening date of the quad. December 22nd, 1989.
