The State Theatre opened on October 19, 1933, giving Greenfield a second movie house. A fire caused some $10,000 damage to the house in 1945, but it was repaired and reopened. With the new Weil Theatre opening in 1946 and the older Riley Theatre still in operation, the State Theatre was unable to compete and was closed in mid-1948.

The State Theatre was on the west side of Greenfield’s Courthouse Square. As I have no address for it, it might have been in one of the two surviving commercial buildings on the block, or it might have been under the footprint of Greenfield’s modern City Hall or the small parking lot next to it.
