Located in the Greenville Mall, the Plitt Theatres opened December 15, 1978 with Christopher Reeve in “Superman”. It was taken over by Cineplex Odeon in 1986. It was closed on November 30, 1991 with Disney’s animated feature “Beauty and the Beast”.

This opened on December 15th, 1978 by Plitt Theatres. Later taken over by Cineplex Odeon in 1986.
This is the first theatre that I worked at, in the early 1980’s. I was 19 at the time and worked as the assistant manager. Ron (can’t remember last name) taught me projection. It is a skill that I have used on and off my entire life! Worked at theatres in several states in the past 30 years.
An article in the 12/4/1991 edition of the Greenville News reported this 12,000 square foot two-screen theatre closed the previous Saturday 11/30/1991.
An open house party occurred on December 14, 1978. Entertainment for the party were Max Fleischer’s animated short Film Rudolph from 1948 and a live performance of a high school marching band.
