The Manos Auto Drive-In opened on June 30, 1956, featuring the 1955 comedy-drama “Picnic” with William Holden, Kim Novak and Rosalind Russell. The second feature was the 1955 Western “The Gun that Won the West” with Dennis Morgan and Paula Raymond. The Manos was not even open a year until it was closed, rebuilt and reopened as the Giant Drive-In on July 12, 1957. The opening night feature for the Giant Drive-In was the 1957 Western “Dragoon Wells Massacre” with Barry Sullivan, Dennis O'Keefe, Mona Freeman and Katy Jurado. It was a bonus night for patrons as there were two additional screenings. The second feature was the 1957 drama “Destination 60,000” with Preston Foster, Pat Conway and Jeff Donnell. The third feature was the 1955 drama “The Big Combo” with Richard Conte, Jean Wallace and Cornel Wilde. It had a capacity to park 600 cars.
Beginning in 1958 it was operated by Nate Schultz dba Selected Theatres Co. from Cleveland, Ohio. From 1977 it screened adult movies. The drive-in closed at the end of the season in 1980 and is now industrial warehouses. I’m speculating that it was first opened by George Manos or one of the Manos families, and then sold.
