Midcity Auto Theatre

The Midcity Auto Theatre opened on June 4, 1948, featuring 1947 Western “Cheyenne” with Dennis Morgan and Jane Wyman. It was opened by Jerry Reinhart and had a capacity of 625 cars. In August of 1951, Meyer S. Fine dba Associated Theatres, Cleveland, Ohio, took over the drive-in. They were operating the North Canton Auto Theatre at this time also. They resurfaced the parking ramps, upgraded the sound and projection equipment. Blair Mooney with Co-Operative Theatres of Ohio was the booking and buying agency. Associated Theatres operated the drive-in until 1964.

The drive-in closed at the end of the season in 1982. It was demolished and was turned back into a farm field. From information I have, Herb Burk was operating the drive-in up to its closing.

In the current Google Maps Aerial view you can still make out the outline of the entire drive-in and roads in and out even though it is farmland. Zooming in you can see the concrete base of the screen tower still there.
