On January 9, 2013, the Salina Journal reported that Starplex Cinema had purchased Showplex Cinemas, which included the Salina 10 at Central Mall. Showplex had operated the theater since June of 2010.
Dickinson Theatres originally opened with four screens at Central Mall on April 10, 1987, and by 2007 it had grown to 10 screens.
According to a press release from Starplex, “The two companies will retain their current brand names, while Starplex will take over day-to-day management of the former Showplex theaters". Starplex Cinemas were taken over by AMC December 16, 2015. It was closed in late-April 2026 when the mall suffered damage from a storm. AMC have said they will not reopen the theatre.

The AMC Salina 10, is one of three Kansas theaters acquired from Starplex Cinemas on December 16, 2015.
I believe this theater, along with the Hays 8, and Pittsburg 8) are the first AMC theaters in Kansas that are located outside the Kansas City metro area.
Dickinson operated the theater until 2010 when it was sold off to Showplex. Starplex Cinemas took over the theater in January 2013, and was taken over by AMC on December 16, 2015. It was one out of 30 Starplex locations to do so.
It was known as the Dickinson Central Mall 10 when it was sold to Showplex Cinemas, Inc. in May 2010.

It became the Starplex Cinemas Central Mall 10 in May 2013 following the acquisition of Showplex Cinemas by Starplex Cinemas.

It was known as the Starplex Cinemas - Salina 10 when AMC acquired Starplex Cinemas in 2015, causing it to be renamed to the AMC Salina 10. It was rebranded as the AMC Classic Salina 10 in 2017 as the company began to rebrand its older movie theaters with the “Classic” designation.

An interesting side story to the various operators involved with this theatre: Circa 2009, Starplex Cinemas explored buying several of Dickinson’s theatres. The talks ultimately fell through and Showplex formed with most of the theatres Starplex had been looking at. Then, in 2013, Starplex bought Showplex. There was some speculation that Showplex had formed with an eventual sale to Starplex as their goal. Around this same time, Starplex’s financial backer had changed to Trinity Hunt Partners and a few years later the sale to AMC took place. This time, the speculation was that Trinity Hunt Partners had made the Showplex acquisition as a means of creating a larger/more attractive package to sell to AMC. Basically, a string of operator changes motivated by something other than growing a company.
