Located 1 mile east of the City centre, the Tivoli Picture Hall opened on Monday 22nd September 1912. The original policy of the Tivoli Cinema was only to show films that the clergy considered suitable for their parishioners to watch; in fact the Roman Catholic Church was influential in the running of the Tivoli Cinema throughout its 44 years as a cinema. Around 1930 it was equipped with a British Talking Pictures(BTP sound system.
CinemaScope was never installed and the Tivoli Picture Hall closed on Saturday 25th February 1965. The building was converted into a car showroom. In 1998 it became a cash & carry supermarket, which still operates in 2015.
