The Sands Drive-In opened on May 13, 1955 as an independent. In the 1960’s it was listed under Nace Theatres and Forman-Nace Theatres banners in the Arizona Republic.
While operated by Nace Theatres as a $1.25 a carload, triple feature theater, the Sands Drive-In closed in January of 1972. The location today can be found by looking for the entrance to the Sands Apartments.

From the Nov. 5, 1955 Motion Picture Herald:
C. K. Cargile, manager-owner with the Harry L. Nace circuit, has re-opened the Sands drive-in near Mesa, Ariz., complete with a new tower. Two months ago, shortly after the drive-in opened for the first time, a freak desert wind storm flattened the screen structure.
Opened with “Three for the show” and “Wyoming renegades”.
