The Roxy Cinema 4 opened on December 1, 2006 near the site of the old Chanute Cinema, which closed the previous March 26. After the Chanute Cinema was demolished in May, a parking lot was constructed before work on Roxy Cinema 4 began.
The Chanute Tribune noted that the $1.5 million theater, seating 761, was built with a family arcade and a birthday party room. The concession stand serves as the ticket-selling station to make the operation more efficient.
