Opened by GCC as the Ridgmar West on October 10, 1980, it was the first multiplex to open in in the Dallas/White Settlement area. It was renamed Cinema V in March 1981. Taken out on a 20 year lease, it didn’t quite make the 20 years, as it was the first in a wave of closures in 1998 by General Cinemas. It was closed in February 1998, while the chain continued to operate its new GCC Ridmar V less than two miles away.
The theatre was ‘For Lease’ until the end of 2009 where the building had sat vacant and deteriorating. Just prior to Christmas 2009 it was demolished and the last General Cinema signage went with it. It was probably torn down to get the building off the tax roll (in 2009 listed as building and property worth $750k, to 2010 to present (2015) it is listed as a vacant lot worth just $330k).
