In 1927, trees were planted within the grounds of the University of Western Australia to form the skeleton of an outdoor theatre, based on the nave and transcript of a cathedral. Live performances began there in the late-1920’s and the first film screened there was in January 1947.
The outdoor cinema is still operating part of the year(for Festival of Perth film screenings). If it rains, they use one of the indoor buildings nearby.
