Richmond Theatre and Gardens opened in the late-1920’s, and closed in 1961. Richmond Theatre and Gardens were converted into Richmond Shopping Centre, including a supermarket(Charlie Carter’s). Richmond Shopping Centre was demolished in 1979. The site is now a car park, May Street Larder(formally a fast store(Red Rooster)), a restaurant(Royal Malaysian cuisine), a hair salon(A Little Tlc), and a fitness studio(Boom Fitness).

There is a plan to demolish the buildings that are there now and build apartments(Richmond Quarter).
