In Saffron Walden, Essex, the town’s first film shows were presented by Andrew Dix at the Central Hall. It is unclear to what extent this became a permanent cinema, but it might have been put out of business as early as 1912, when the Saffron Walden Cinema opened further up the High Street.
Over the years, the hall has been used as a dancing school.

In August 2018, the hall’s principal use was as The Malthouse dance school.
