In the Worcestershire town of Kidderminster, the Hippodrome Theatre, in Mill Street, opened on 25th April 1910.
The theatre was re-named the Royal Bijou Theatre, which opened on 6th February 1911, but closed in March the following year. It is thought that the building was equipped for film shows from the beginning. It was listed in the 1914 edition of Kinematograph Year Book, so may have briefly re-opened 1913/1914.
The frontage was converted for retail use. From 1968 to 1971 (see photograph) the auditorium was home to The Dancing Club, run by Frank and Wynn Freeman, which played host to famous bands such as Captain Beefheart and Fleetwood Mac. At that time, the frontage had been used by Quality Cleaners.
When I visited, in May 2005, the building was home to La Brasserie restaurant, which continues to date (December 2015).
