In Larkhall, South Lanarkshire, the Empire Cinema opened in 1917 with cine-variety.
By 1931 it was owned by Scott Theatres Ltd., of Motherwell. There was an 18ft deep stage and two dressing rooms. However, by that time, the Empire Cinema was a full-time cinema.
The Empire Cinema was listed in the 1966 Kinematograph Year Book. It is not known when it closed.
After closure, the building moved over to bingo, as the Regal Bingo Club, ironically taking the name of the town’s other cinema.
