Regal Cinema

In Tarbert, Argyll & Bute, it is not known when the Regal Cinema opened (a Picture House is listed in 1927). The Regal Cinema was listed in the 1931 Kinematograph Year Book, but with only the cinema name, suggesting that it might have only recently opened.

The 1940 edition listed the owner as J. McArthur. By 1953 ownership had transferred to Tarbert Cinemas Ltd.

The Regal Cinema was still open in 1966, but had closed by 1980.

The building was subsequently transformed into the Anchor Hotel. Judging by the historic photograph this must have been a very extensive transformation.

In the meantime, film fans in the town are served by the Tarbert Film Club, which meets once a month (July and August excepted) in the Templar Arts & Leisure Centre.
