Light Cinemas Walsall

Opened on 21st March 2016, this was Light Cinemas' third UK build, following their multiplexes at Wisbech and New Brighton.

It is part of the new Walsall Waterfront Development, a shopping and leisure destination just off the town centre. It is about two miles from the town’s Showcase cinema, situated alongside the nearby M6 motorway.

Seating capacities are: Screen 1: 166 seats; Screen 2: 243; Screen 3: 128; Screen 4: 109; Screen 5: 159; Screen 6: 123; Screen 7: 99 and Screen 8: 88. There are no premium priced seats: the company ethos is that all the seats are VIP luxury seats (they are!). Continuing another of the company’s themes, each auditorium is livened up by bright, multi-coloured panels on the rear wall. And each screening is introduced by a member of staff (providing a useful opportunity to remind patrons to turn off their mobile phones!).

Alongside the usual blockbusters, independent and international films are also screened, plus live opera, ballet, theatre and pop concerts from around the globe, including Royal Opera House and the National Theatre.

The Light aims to be a social hub for the local community. To this end the cinema is also home to one of the company’s licensed café/bars: the Green Room. All the screens are fully licensed.
