On June 14, 2016, Movie Tavern opened its $11 million theater at the Township 5 shopping, eating and entertainment destination.
The Tavern’s 11 screens have reserved stadium seating with call button food service and Breakfast and a Flick on weekend mornings.
Movie Tavern, now operated by Southern Theatres, was founded in 2001 and has 24 location and 211 screens in 10 states. Southern Theatres, said to be the eight largest chain in the United States, also operate AmStar Cinemas, The Grand Theatres and the Theatres at Canal Place.

As of February 1, 2019 this theatre along with the rest of the Movie Tavern chain is now operated by Marcus Theatres. Marcus has elected to retain the Movie Tavern branding, referring to the newly acquired theatres as “Movie Tavern by Marcus”. The Movie Tavern chain was recently integrated into the Marcus website, and as such the theatre’s website is now www.marcustheatres.com. In early April of this year Marcus upgraded theatres 6 and 7 into Superscreen DLX auditoriums (which given the existing infrastructure primarily involved the installation of Dolby Atmos in these auditoriums).
