Bailey Theatre

The Palace Theatre opened in 1916. It was later acquired by a regional chain headed by Robert Lee Bailey and renamed the Bailey Theatre. In 1951 the house was altered, with plans by Lake Charles architect John Milton Gabriel.

The Bailey Theatre closed in 1974, and sat empty and deteriorating until the late 1990’s, when it was extensively remodeled and reopened as a bar, restaurant, and live music venue. The venue is now called Bailey’s on the Square.

For the first 13 years, it was a silent movie house. Sound was added on November 10, 1929, reopening with “Broadway Melody” along with a Mickey Mouse cartoon in “Mickey’s Follies”, and a newsreel.
