Mr. and Mrs. C.W. Matson opened the new Dixie Theatre on May 26, 1938. According to the Rockdale Reporter, Mr. Matson also operated a previous Dixie Theatre, which dated back to at least 1915 under different owners. Mr. Matson brought sound to that Dixie Theatre in April 1929 and later operated theaters in Giddings, Caldwell and Thorndale.
The Dixie Theatre closed in January 1975. On September 1, 1977, the Rockdale Reporter published demolition photographs of the Dixie Theatre, a prelude to building a new bank.
Film Daily Year Book 1951 lists the Dixie Theatre with 460 seats.
