The 1,030-seat Jefferson Theatre was opened on January 20, 1920 with 6-acts of Keith Vaudeville. It was renamed State Theatre on September 14, 1929 presenting vaudeville and Loretta Young in “The Girl in the Glass Cage” on the screen. It was operated by the Butterfield Theaters chain. It was still open in 1956 but had closed by 1957.

Was this theatre known by any other name other than the State?
The Jefferson theatre opened on January 20th, 1920 as “Muskegon’s only fireproof theatre” by Paul J. Schlossman. It reopened as the State theatre on September 14th, 1929. Grand opening ads posted.
