Located in the centre of Reggio Emilia, in the Emilia-Romagna region of northern Italy, the Cinema Ambre (“Amber”) opened in 1951.
It was designed by Carlo Lucci. The structure is of reinforced concrete with an aluminium roof. The foyer stretched across the broad frontage and led to a twin-level auditorium where the walls had fluorescent lighting from cornice coving and the ceiling had small circular lighting panels.
In 2007 the Cinema Ambre was still showing films, but had been sub-divided into two screens.
At one time it was owned by Adalberto Bianchi, proprietor of four of the town’s other cinemas, Al Corso, Alexander, D'Alberto and Radium.
It closed prior to March 2013. Articles in the press at that time indicated a desire for it to be re-opened for community use. However, in September 2016, when I visited, the building was boarded up.
