Park Drive-In

The Park Drive-In was opened in 1949. It was operated by Forrest O. Shelby and A.R. Dietz Co-operative Theatres who closed it on October 3, 1954 with Gary Cooper in “Springfield Rifle” & Leo Gorcey & The Bowery Boys in “Blues Busters”. Now a residence. Entrance road is used for the residence next door. The residence on the actual property uses the exit road. No other trace.

Same drive-in? Independent Film Journal, Sept. 18, 1954: “Atomic Drive-In at Kevil, Ky., operating for some time with 16 mm films, has been converted to 35 mm operation. Blaine Sykes is owner.”

Motion Picture Exhibitor, June 15, 1955: “In Kevil, Ky., the Park Drive-In, 225 cars, opened in 1949, has been closed indefinitely.”

Forrest and Howard Shelby opened the ozoner. Closed for films with “Springfield Rifle” and “Blues Busters” on October 3, 1954. Closed by the Shelbys after a Turkey Shoot even on November 26, 1954. It may have continued under new operators the following season without advertising.
