Located in Haltwhistle, Northumberland, close to the Roman built Hadrian’s Wall. The Gem Cinema was opened in June 1911. It had 600 seats, some being long wooden benches. The projection box was at the rear of the stalls, beneath the circle.
Taken over by a new operator in 1947, it was re-named The Cinema. By 1968 it was showing films on weekdays and was a bingo club on Saturday & Sunday. It showed its final fims in February 1975, and became the Gem Bingo Club. It was closed by 1994 and the building was demolished in 1995. Two houses were built on the site.
